A Wedding is difficult to plan for. The grooms outfit is often overlooked but here at Sclaters Styland we have experience on what to wear!
Recently, we were present at the Kirkwall Wedding Exhibition @ The Pickaquoy Centre. With the magic of internet we are able to bring the highlights for those who missed us! Planning is key, and the months soon fly in. Many evenings will be spent in magazines and websites deciding what to go for. With over 100 years of experience dressing Orkney’s grooms in shirts and suits we have some knowledge to pass on. Send us a message or phone us for advice for what to wear on your Wedding day.
Personal Experience for Groomsmen
Many among us feel a little timid with the prospect of trying on different suits in front of others. However, we cannot stress the importance of taking the time to ensure the fit and style is perfect for you and your groomsmen. Sclaters Styland offer a bespoke personal shopping experience where we can meet in the evening, when the Kirkwall streets are quiet, and you will have the store to yourselves. You can even make an evening of it with a trip to a near watering hole! The excitement starts at the planning stage and we feel it is important to enjoy every step of the planning stage. Phone us to make arrangements.
Plan With time
The latest we have had is groom in the morning of his wedding! Don’t let that be you. The build up will be busy with organising table plans, florists, bands, DJs, catering and attending to guests! We typically required 7 days to have your suits and shirts perfected. This includes alterations and a 2nd visit to the store for sizing. Avoid any explosive arguments with forward planning! From our stockists we have a range of mix and match suits. Mix and match is to combine different size jackets with different size trousers. This means we can fit your size & shape accurately.
Navy is a great suit colour to opt for. Very versatile with shirts and ties to combine with. The choice of single breasted or double breasted wait depends on personal opinion. However, if you are opting for a waistcoat we will have the suit should have a low lapel in order to present the waistcoat.
Grey suits also combine well with a variety of colours. It is best to have an idea whether to match with bridesmaids dresses or Bride before deciding on colour of suit.
Accessories to set you apart

Over and Above Accessories
These are great for gifts to your groomsmen on the day to thank them for the help to come! A range of cufflinks and tie pins. For the more eccentric we have armbands to add a touch of elegance!
Finally, what not to wear!
White suits – best left in the 80’s or Liverpool’s sorry FA cup finalists in 1996. Never has a white suit been successfully pulled off, we love bold choices, but not this one! Embed from Getty Images
